Program and Application Information

Who should apply?

Rising high school (grades 9-12) students from the United States and abroad are encouraged to apply and participate in the program. Those accepted must have a substantial command of the English language and be prepared for an intensive scientific program.

Program Track

The program has a capacity for 100 students each year to join. The program will begin with a opening ceremony hosted by scientists from UC Berkeley, followed by 2 weeks of a hybrid seminar-experimental-excursion curriculum. The program will culminate with a keynote address by a Nobel Laureate and an Award Ceremony, in which participating students will receive Certificates of Completion signed by the Dean of the College of Chemistry, Douglas S. Clark.

Science and Technology Topics

The science and technology topics will focus on nanotechnology, clean and renewable energy, artificial intelligence and robotics, genetics and new genome-editing technologies, computers and internet in the information age, as well as discussions on inspirational discoveries that shaped the world we live into today.

1. Fill out the application form. Your application may be saved at various stages and returned to later. Please note that there is a non-refundable application fee (US $75) that is due at the time of submission. Please see details below regarding the initial deposit.

2. Upload transcriptsYou will need to submit your official transcripts. Please note that transcripts must be in English. Mailed transcripts will NOT be accepted.

3. Upload two (2) letters of recommendationTWO letters of recommendation are required. These must be relevant to your academic or professional experience. Mailed letters of recommendation will NOT be accepted.

4. Write a Personal Statement In 500 words or less, please tell us about a facet of your personality that helps you move through your academic life.

5. International applicants: Upload TOEFL  (minimum of  80)  or  IELTS  (minimum of  7.0)  scores. Scholars who cannot provide these minimum scores may still qualify by passing an interview. An interview will be scheduled for you after the registration form is submitted. 

6. Review all sections of the application prior to submission.

7. Submit application.

Program Cost

Tuition for the SciTech Program: US$10,000 for both US domestic and international scholars

  • Includes: room and board, course materials, all meals, all excursions and social events, program souvenirs and other "swag," and official completion certificates signed by the Dean of the College of Chemistry. 

Housing Options

Timeline for Admission Decisions

The applicant will be notified of an admission decision via email within 10-15 calendar days after receiving the completed application and a non-refundable application fee (US$75). Depending on the outcomes of the admission decision and the applicant’s decision: 

  • Admitted to the program and accept the offer: the applicant will have 10 business days to decide, complete and return the acceptance form, and pay the program fees (US$10,000 total tuition for both US domestic and international scholars).
  • Decline admission: SciTech shall keep the initial application fee (US$75).
  • Denied admission: SciTech shall keep the initial application fee (US$75).

Program Withdrawal and Refund Policy

Applicants who have been admitted to the program and paid the tuition, but decide to withdraw from the program may do so within 30 calendar days of remitting payment. Applicants will be provided a refund of all fees paid in this case except for the non-refundable application fee (US$75). Withdrawals made after the 30 days are non-refundable.
