2017 Laboratory Research Experience

Twenty-eight undergraduate scholars from around the world participated in the inaugural Laboratory Research Experience program at UC Berkeley from June 26 – August 04, 2017. During these six weeks, students conducted a number of different research projects covering diverse fields, including reticular chemistry, nanotechnology, coordination and organic chemistry, and materials science. They gained insight into cutting edge topics of research currently taking place in chemistry through weekly seminars from distinguished professors, including Nobel Laureate Roald Hoffmann.

Scholars were guided through the experience by esteemed UC Berkeley faculty, graduate students, and research staff. The LRE scholars gained insights into graduate life at UC Berkeley by shadowing graduate students, and developed a professional network of faculty contacts who can provide mentorship during the graduate school application process. The program culminated in a poster session exhibiting their newfound knowledge and skillsets.
