Dr. Thahira Begum (FORMS, Malaysia) Delivers Talk at UNESCO for the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements

January 29, 2019

The Periodic Table of Chemical Elements is one of the most significant achievements in science. The year 1869 is considered to be when Dmitri Mendeleev discovered the Periodic System. 150 Years later in 2019, the international chemistry community has come together to celebrate the 150th anniversary of this remarkable discovery. The United Nations General Assembly and UNESCO have therefore proclaimed this year to be the "International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements (IYPT2019)".

To inaugurate this special anniversary, UNESCO organized an event to kick-off the year's celebrations at their headquarters in Paris, France. During the opening ceremony, our very own Dr. Thahira Begum (FORMS, Malaysia) was invited to participate as a speaker in the "Young Oustanding Scientists of the World" session.

We are proud of Dr. Thahira for representing young scientists and speaking about the importance of creating new materials for sustainable solutions!
